Why I like it: Ha! Let’s start with the obvious. This is so perfectly executed. Every detail. The casting, the post-dinner homey setting, the music, the dialogue (love the bit at the end about the kids), the music, the close-ups (quivering chin, teary eye), the wardrobe…I could go on with a long list. The point here is that the difference between good and great is not always one burst of brilliant inspiration, it’s often a collection of dozens of small details that, when all combined just right, make something just…work. Just great! (but half the effect is ruined if you look at the name of the youtube video. What an oversight!) Looking a little deeper at this ad, I’m in admiration of the idea: “find out you’re not funny”. Go see funny people and realize, in comparison, how un-funny you actually are, how un-funny you’ve been all these years! That is such a fresh, unique, and interesting look at the topic:) I think most people will take it for granted because the execution is so spot-on, but there is a lot of merit in coming up with this new approach – it must have been a great brief to work with. This ad shines because of a perfect balance of idea and execution. Spot on!
